LOVELAND, Colo. — On Thursday, jury found a Loveland man guilty of second-degree murder related to a woman found dead in 2022.
Asa Peck, 47, was found guilty of:
- Second-degree murder
- Sexual assault – force/no consent
- Violation of a protection order
In August 2022, 49-year-old Chantell Wilkes was found dead in the Big Thompson River near Barnes Park in Fairgrounds Park, according to the Loveland Police Department. She died from a combination of blunt force trauma and drowning. The Larimer County coroner ruled her death a homicide.
Wilkes was unhoused at the time of her death and the Loveland Police Department immediately began investigating, which included nearly 100 witnesses. Loveland detectives developed a suspect, which was Peck, based on witnesses seeing him with Wilkes shortly before her death, seeing him near the scene where she was found in the river and his recent relationship with Wilkes, which included two domestic violence cases where Wilkes was the victim, according to the 8th Judicial District Attorney’s Office…
