Tucson officials believe new public drug use ordinance could solve drug crisis

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The City of Tucson may be looking at a new approach to tackle the drug use epidemic in southern Arizona. This could happen by redirecting many drug arrests from felonies to misdemeanors to allow for more access to treatment and quicker resolutions within the city.

That reclassification is referring mainly to small or personal use possession cases, which are not being prosecuted at the felony level due to a backlog.

Now the city has 60 days to come up with a comprehensive plan on how to enact this drug use ordinance…
