Driver in Fayetteville crash that killed 3 high school students make first court appearance

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — The driver in the crash that killed three E. E. Smith High School students in Fayetteville last month was released from jail Thursday evening.

Dymond Monroe, 21, posted her $300,000 secured bond after appearing in Cumberland County Court.

Fayetteville police arrested Monroe while she was in rehab at UNC Health the previous day. She’s facing multiple charges including three counts of involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of thee E. E. Smith High School Football players, Jai’Hyon Elliott, Trevor Meritt, and Nicholas Williams.

Prosecutors said Monroe was racing against her sister, on Rosehill Road, going 93 miles per hour when her car hit a utility police, flew into the air, and slammed into a tree on Oct. 3. Monroe spent weeks in the hospital in critical condition with broken bones…
