Brownstein’s Bakery won’t reopen after fire destroys location

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Brownstein’s Bakery and Deli, a Rochester-area staple for nearly 40 years, will not reopen following the devastating September fire that tore through its Twelve Corners location on Monroe Avenue, the business announced.

The bakery, long known for its loyal customer base and top-ranked status on Yelp, had scaled back its retail operations to two days a week in recent years. Its breads, baked goods, and deli items were served in schools, hospitals, houses of worship, and at community events across the region.

Owners said the damage caused by the fire proved too severe to overcome. With significant equipment losses, challenging market conditions, and longtime owner Irwin Brown preparing for retirement, reopening was no longer feasible…
