The Wilmington City Council members that represent the North Market Street corridor are looking to stem the rise in the amount of liquor stores in Northeast Wilmington.
Councilwoman Shané Derby (2nd District) introduced a resolution urging state lawmakers to allow cities with more than 50,000 people to establish their own local regulations for distance requirements between other liquor stores, churches, schools, and other public spaces, and also limit the amount of liquor stores that could be in a specific neighborhood or zoning district.
