DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man has been charged after police say he punched a dog several times and slammed the dog on the ground.
According to the Des Moines Police Department, on Monday a 911 caller reported seeing a dog being thrown and punched in the 300 block of SW 5th Street. An Animal Service Officer responded to the call but when they arrived in the area police say the dog and suspect were gone.

Video surveillance was discovered that showed the suspect “punching the dog several times with a closed fist, grabbing the dog by the head and neck and slamming the dog against the ground and a wall several times,” the DMPD said.
The ASO was eventually able to find a potential address for the dog and suspect, which the DMPD said led officers to a residence in the 300 block of SW 5th Street, the same area the 911 caller reported the abuse.
The DMPD said a search warrant was executed at the residence on Thursday, and two dogs were rescued and transported to the Animal Services Shelter for vet care…
