Lefler Middle School’s Nickos Horton Recognized for Building Student Connections in Lincoln

This week, Lincoln Public Schools is highlighting Nickos Horton, a student support technician at Lefler Middle School in Lincoln, Nebraska. Horton, also called ‘Coach’ by students and staff, is recognized for building strong relationships within the school. He recently received the Golden Lion award, which is based on student nominations and reflects his role in the school community.

Horton has worked at Lincoln Public Schools for two years as a student support technician and coach. His responsibilities include escorting students in the building and helping them feel included. He says he values seeing students improve their mood during the school day.

Horton is originally from Mississippi and did not attend Lincoln Public Schools as a student. After high school, he attended community college and worked before starting his career in education. He began coaching in 2016, which led to his current work with students…
