ROCKFORD — Stroll on State’s official Christmas tree, perhaps the biggest one in the event’s 13-year history, arrived at Main and Elm streets on Thursday as volunteers prepare to transform downtown into a winter wonderland.
This year’s blue spruce is 40-foot tall and about 30-feet wide at the base, according to John Richards, founder and president of Tree Care Enterprises. Last year’s tree, by comparison, stood about 30-feet tall and was 20-feet wide.
“I think it’s taller and wider,” Richards said. “The biggest one that we’ve ever had.”…
