Celebration of native culture at Pikes Peak State College

(COLORADO SPRINGS) —This November, Pikes Peak State College (PPSC) is celebrating Native American Heritage Month with a series of events recognizing the history, resilience, and contributions of First Nations peoples.

On Thursday, Nov. 20, students and faculty celebrated native culture with traditional dance presentations while supporting native food and craft vendors at the native market.

“A lot of our vendors come from the local community and Denver,” said Brittinie Alvarez, President of the Native American Student Alliance at PPSC. “We sell everything from beadwork, to notebooks, a lot of it supporting the community.”

Next on the schedule of events, you can join the celebration on Monday from 11 to noon, Downtown at the Learning Commons. Look forward to a discussion on Indigenous knowledge of food systems, sustainability, and the importance of returning to ancestral practices…
