Two GU students arrested, charged after downtown Spokane firework assault

Two Gonzaga University students were arrested and appeared in court on Wednesday after the Spokane Police Department said they threw a firework into a crowd in downtown Spokane earlier this month, severely injuring a homeless man.

Theodore T. Weymiller, a 21-year-old business major, and Sam J. Hopper, a 22-year-old engineering major, are both being charged with two counts of first-degree assault after contacting the police department through their attorneys and requesting to turn themselves in, according to a statement from the department.
