The April 15th, 2011 tornado outbreak broke records in Alabama. 12 days later, April 27th would shatter them. It’s been 14 years since those weather events, but an additional, undocumented EF-2 tornado has been discovered on April 15th.The tornado ripped through Sumter and Greene County. It may have been more than a decade a ago, but Carrie Byrd on County Road 69, remembers it vividly.
“Within a few minutes you were looking at a place, your windows were out, there was glass everywhere. There’s things thrown around,” she said. “It was an experience. One I hope most people never have to experience. It was over within a couple of minutes.”
It was a frightful day, and it’s one I hope to never experience again…
