Rutherford County middle schools poised to exceed capacity as board weighs major rezoning

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Rutherford County Schools is bracing for another wave of rapid population growth, and district leaders say several middle schools are on track to exceed capacity as early as next year. The school board met Monday night to review new attendance zone options that could affect students at multiple middle and elementary schools beginning next fall.

A new middle school is set to open next year, triggering a required rebalancing of enrollment across the county. District leaders say shifting attendance boundaries is the only way to prevent massive overcrowding at several campuses.
