Judge dismisses murder charge in stabbing death of Rochester woman

Rochester, N.Y. — The case against the man charged in the death of a local singer who performed around the world.

Myrtle Watson, 63, was found dead from several stab wounds to her neck, chest and upper body inside her apartment on Sixth Street in Rochester Sept. 14, 2024, according to police. Six months later, James, a predicate felon with 49 prior criminal convictions, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder for Watson’s killing. Police said James and Watson knew each other.
