Rossford Fire Department using old Rite Aid as training course

ROSSFORD, Ohio — A vacant Rite Aid building on Dixie Highway has been transformed into a hands-on training site for the Rossford Fire Department, giving firefighters a challenging environment to sharpen critical, life-saving skills.

Firefighters are running the course in simulated zero-visibility conditions by pulling their protective hoods over their masks. Battalion Chief Greg Yingling said the setup is designed to push firefighters physically and mentally while preparing them for what they will face on real emergency calls.

“Managing air supply, that’s instrumental in what firefighters do,” Yingling said. “It’ll give them more confidence. If we do go in, that confidence of us being able to handle our air supply means we can worry about mitigating the problem instead of worrying about protecting our air and being scared.”…
