WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV) – Federal scientists are confirming whether a Canadian goose from the Wilmington area was found positive with the avian flu.
The bird was found in a small pond behind a local residence. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said testing could take two to five weeks for a final result. The avian flu is highly contagious among birds. While the risk is low, the virus can spread from animals to humans.
