Novartis to Bring 700 New Jobs and Major Investment to Durham and Wake Counties by 2030

Novartis, a global pharmaceutical company, announced plans to expand in North Carolina’s Research Triangle region. The company will invest $771 million and create 700 new jobs in Durham and Wake counties by 2030. Governor Josh Stein announced the investment on Wednesday and noted North Carolina’s role in pharmaceutical manufacturing. He also acknowledged Novartis’ contribution to the state’s economy and workforce.

Novartis currently employs 350 people in Durham County. The site focuses on developing and producing gene therapies for neurological genetic diseases. The expansion will allow Novartis to manufacture medications for various therapeutic areas at its Research Triangle facilities. This move is expected to support the region’s life sciences sector.

In Durham County, Novartis will invest $540 million and add 280 jobs. The company plans to use about 260,000 square feet of industrial space at 14 TW Alexander Drive and 2512 S Tricenter Boulevard. The facilities will include biologics manufacturing and packaging operations. Local officials, including Durham County Board of Commissioners Chair Nida Allam and Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce President Geoff Durham, said the project will create jobs, including positions that do not require a four-year degree.
