New Robotic Lung Cancer Screening Program Launches at Our Lady of Lourdes, Bringing Advanced Care to Lafayette Residents

On November 20, 2025, Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette, Louisiana, announced a new lung cancer screening program. The program uses robotic technology and artificial intelligence to improve detection and treatment of lung cancer in the Acadiana region.

The main technology in the program is the Intuitive Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy system. This system is minimally invasive and allows doctors to reach all 18 segments of the lung, including areas that are hard to access. More than 70% of lung nodules are found in these peripheral areas. The system uses an ultrathin, flexible catheter to increase precision and stability during biopsies. This makes it possible to sample nodules that were previously difficult or risky to reach.

The program also uses Eon Patient Management software. This AI-based tool reviews X-rays, CT scans, and other imaging within the hospital network. The software flags possible lung nodules for review by a team of specialists. The team includes experts in pulmonology, cardiothoracic surgery, radiology, oncology, and pathology.
