MCFARLAND, Wis. — The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday released the name of the man who lost his life in a vehicle fire after crashing into a tree on South Stoughton Road Monday morning.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop earlier on Derek G. Powers, 44, but he did not stop. The deputy reportedly did not pursue.
Police said Powers, of McFarland, continued to travel northbound on South Stoughton Road when witnesses saw a vehicle speeding and entering a ditch along the median side of the road.
