El Paso County Jail holding first mural competition

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) announced on Thursday, Nov. 20, that the El Paso County Jail will hold its first-ever Incarcerated Citizens Mural Competition.

According to EPSO, incarcerated citizens at the El Paso County Jail have teamed up to design and draw original murals inside the facility. The Sheriff’s Office said the initiative encourages positive, safe behavior, reduces incidents involving the use of force, and gives those in custody the chance to channel their energy and talent into creating something meaningful instead of vandalizing the jail building.

The competition’s theme was “Patriotism and Veterans Day.” The public is encouraged to vote on their favorite mural by voting through EPSO’s survey page. Voting opened Thursday and runs through Sunday, Nov. 23.

The winning team prizes may include a pizza party, movie night with popcorn, or a continental breakfast…
