Nonverbal child found unattended in feces-filled Portland apartment

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Portland woman is facing charges for allegedly failing to care for her child after police found him alone in a home filled with feces and rotting food.

Ruby Itzayana Godina-Velador, 32, was arrested Friday on three counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment after police were notified that her 11-year-old son, who is low-functioning and nonverbal, did not make it to school.

A family member had first called in a welfare check, asking police to make sure the pair were OK, according to court documents. When police arrived at the home and no one answered the door, the family member asked to file a missing persons report…
