DC Water plans to turn wastewater into drinking water

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — DC Water is moving ahead with a multimillion-dollar plan to turn treated wastewater into safe drinking water, a move officials say could protect the region from future water shortages.

It’s part of the Pure Water DC initiative, which aims to safeguard the District’s only water source, the Potomac River, which experts warn is increasingly vulnerable to drought, spills and rising demand.
