Deputies in western North Carolina warn of scammers pretending to be FEMA

MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office has warned residents of scammers posing as FEMA.

The sheriff’s office said the caller told a resident that FEMA needed access to their property to reach someone else’s property. Deputies said the caller, who already had the resident’s personal information, asked for the resident’s Social Security Number.
