Miles College band to defend title at 2025 HBCU Band of the Year Championship

Miles College’s Purple Marching Machine has been invited to defend its 2024 Red Lobster HBCU Band of the Year title, marking a significant achievement for the ensemble. The band, under the direction of Prof. Willie J. Snipes, Jr. and Bryan Nalls, is recognized as one of the nation’s top HBCU marching bands.

Miles College President Bobbie Knight praised the students’ dedication, saying, “The Purple Marching Machine continues to show what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” She highlighted the students’ hard work in balancing rehearsals, classes, and other responsibilities.

Prof. Snipes expressed pride in the band’s selection for the ESPN Band of the Year competition. “The Miles College Purple Marching Machine is honored to be selected as a top contender,” he said. “We are winners not because of a trophy, but because we are recognized among the greatest bands around the country.”…
