Community rallies at Gio Strong event for boy’s recovery

The Erie community gathered Saturday evening in support of a local boy who was born with a congenital heart defect and is currently recovering after multiple surgeries.

10-year-old Giovanni Newsuan, also known as Gio, is described by the community as a brave and sweet boy who recently returned home from the cardiac intensive care unit after going through treatment for cardiac arrest.

To support Gio and his loved ones, his family hosted Gio Strong, a fundraiser to help financially support Gio and his family.

Lake City man decorates home for a good cause

Matt Pollock, Gio’s grandfather, said, “We just had a long bout down in children’s for three months. We had a few major surgeries go on that our daughter was down there with him for the entire time, so friends of ours encouraged us to put a benefit together, and here we are today. It’s unbelievable, the support from the community as far as gift baskets, donations, gift certificates for everybody, and the people that have shown up already.”…
