Toyota has begun production at its new battery plant in Liberty, North Carolina. The plant is the company’s first battery site outside Japan and its 11th U.S. plant.
The project represents nearly $14 billion in investments and will create up to 5,100 jobs, according to Toyota.
Toyota Battery Plant Investment
Toyota announced an additional investment of up to $10 billion over the next five years to support future mobility programs. This brings the automaker’s total U.S. investment to nearly $60 billion since it started operations in the country almost 70 years ago.
