Wilson County Sheriff’s Office losing staff due to pay

WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan has been raising the alarm to county leaders that he’s losing personnel across the board, from detectives to deputies to correctional officers, because of pay.

“They come to work every day and risk their life, okay? And I said the other night, I’ve had them shot at; I got somebody with a bullet in their foot,” Bryan said during a Wilson County Commission meeting earlier this week.

Bryan took a stand for his employees at the meeting, saying he’s losing quality people to surrounding agencies that have more competitive pay.

“They’re 29% below market… That doesn’t even catch them up to what other agencies are paying around us,” said Mt. Juliet Police Chief Tyler Chandler, who is also the county commissioner for District 10…
