Historic factory set to transform into modern apartment complex in Canandaigua

Canandaigua, N.Y. — A redevelopment project kicked off Friday in Ontario County.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Hunter House. The project will transform a long-abandoned Labelon factory on Chapin Street into a 51-unit apartment complex.

The building was once the nation’s largest manufacturer of women’s corsets until it began producing parachutes for bombs and signal flares during World War II. The site has been vacant since 2002 and has since gone through a Brownfield site cleanup, which removes and seals contaminants from previously developed land…
