Hanauma Bay, Hawai’i (KHON2) – Two men were rescued outside Hanauma Bay on Saturday after their 12-foot vessel sank, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.

HFD received the 911 call at 4:06 p.m. and responded with six units. Crews arrived at 4:27 p.m. and began searching the shoreline and offshore area.

Officials said a large wave swamped the vessel, causing it to sink. The man in his 20s swam to shore, climbed up the rocks and called for help. The second boater, a man in his 50s, drifted further out.

A good Samaritan on a jet ski located the older man and assisted firefighters in getting him onto HFD’s rescue boat.
