State historian announces run for 43rd district Senate seat

ALBANY — With a lament that the 43rd Senate District is being left behind, Democrat Devin Lander said on Thursday he will challenge incumbent Republican Jake Ashby next November for the state seat.

Lander, the 48-year-old state historian at the New York State Museum, said he can deliver on all the things Ashby can’t — improved infrastructure, school funding, clean air and water and affordability for all — because his party is in the majority.

“It’s about performance and what you do,” Lander said as he sipped coffee on Thursday morning at Stacks Espresso Bar in Troy. “I’m just a taxpayer who’s looking for a return on investment. … I just think that it’s time that we have somebody who can and will deliver for us. Being in the majority is an important reality because it allows for access to more funding.”…
