Survey: Majority of Americans still value the work of journalists but diverge on their importance

  • Nearly half of respondents say media is losing some influence in society

ALBANY — A majority of American readers value the work of journalists but have diverse views on the importance and influence of journalism in society, according to a recent survey from the Pew Research Center.

In a survey of 9,397 adults on their views of journalists and journalism in April, almost a half of the respondents said they think journalists are losing influence in society, compared with 15% who said journalists are gaining influence.
