Nonprofit graduates 14 service dogs, gives them to those in need

At a community center in southwest Orlando, Labrador retrievers that had been in training for nearly two years graduated from the Canine Companions service dog program and were given to individuals or families in need.

The 2-year-old Labradors graduated from the program in November, knowing 45 tasks to assist people with disabilities and help them live a more independent life, including retrieving items, opening doors, enhancing mobility and more.

“Each of the canine companions, puppies, service dogs and facility dogs crossing the state was especially born for these important jobs,” Aston Roberts, program manager of the Southeast region of the organization, said…
