In order to rank public high schools, U.S. News & World Report looked at schools with students who demonstrated exceptional outcomes in math, reading and science, as well as qualifying skills on various college-level exams and graduated in high proportions.

In Louisiana, high school students are assessed based on core subjects, including English, math, science and social studies, using the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program.

1. Benjamin Franklin High School

Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans is ranked as the best high school in Louisiana. Here, students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams, with the school having an AP participation rate of 91%. The graduation rate at this schools is about 95%. This school serves grades ninth through twelfth and has a student enrollment of 1,056, according to U.S. News & World Report.

2. Haynes Academy School for Advanced Studies

Haynes Academy School for Advanced Studies in Metairie is ranked the second best high school in Louisiana. The school serves grades six through 12 and has a high school student population of 508. The graduation rate at this school is about 95%.
