Delano debuts first ice-skating rink at Candy Cane Corner

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Delano is celebrating the opening of its first-ever ice-skating rink at the Eleventh Avenue Community Center.

The rink, part of the city’s initiative to expand recreational activities, will be open from November 21 through January 11, Wednesday through Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Delano Mayor Pro Tem Mario Nunez shared his excitement, saying, “I’ve talked to a couple of the kids that were here earlier, and they were talking about they’d never gone skating or ice skating for that, and they said it was really good.”

Although the rink is not made of real ice, visitors like Chyliy Pagarigan appreciate the softer surface, saying, “When I fall, it doesn’t hurt that much.” Her sister Chloe added, “It’s really easy once you try to start it. At first, it’s hard, but like, when you get the hang of it, it’s really easy. You would really enjoy it here.”

The rink welcomes skaters ages 4 and up, with children ages 4 to 11 requiring adult supervision…
