NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A draft executive order circulating in the White House is signaling a major shift in the country’s approach to artificial intelligence.
It raises the possibility that federal rules could override state laws, including Tennessee’s closely watched ELVIS Act.

The order, still in draft form, would allow federal agencies to set a single nationwide standard for AI. That could leave little room for states to enforce their own protections, even those passed only months ago in response to rapid advances in generative technology.
