New York State Closing Another Correctional Facility

New York State has announced that it will shut down another prison early next year.

Back in May, the $254 billion New York State budget was signed into law. At the time, it was the largest budget in New York history and had numerous highlights in various categories, including affordability, economic relief, education and schools, climate and infrastructure, and much more. The budget also included a section that allowed New York State officials to close up to three correctional facilities in New York.

New York State Closing a Correctional Facility

The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) has announced that after carefully conducting a thorough review of operations at its 42 correctional facilities in New York, it has decided to close the Bare Hill Correctional Facility in Malone, NY.

DOCCS released a statement announcing the closure, saying the review was based on a variety of factors, including available beds, physical infrastructure, program offerings, and whether they can be relocated to other institutions. It also looked at locations that had other facilities in the area to minimize the impact on staff who would be affected by the closure.
