SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A car hit the side of a Northside apartment complex this afternoon, which police say caused a gas leak after it punctured a gas main.
Syracuse Police arrived to the scene at around 12:51 p.m. at Butternut Street Apartments, according to Sergeant Thomas Blake. To be safe, they had everyone from all 48 units (and 9 tenants living in a house) evacuate the building, though the police did not report any injuries.
A volunteer on site from the American Red Cross told NewsChannel 9 that the tenants will be out from their homes for at least three days. The Eastern New York division of the group later sent a statement that they would be opening a shelter at Onondaga Community College to shelter the tenants until the building is safe to reopen…
