Self-driving shuttle launches in Boca Raton

On Friday, a self-driving shuttle made its debut in Boca Raton and is expected to begin offering free rides around Mizner Park in the coming weeks.

The vehicle, called MiCa, operates using autonomous-vehicle technology developed by Guident, a Boca Raton–based company focused on improving AV safety. It is currently the only MiCa shuttle operating in Florida. The shuttle is monitored by Guident’s RMCC (Remote Monitoring and Control Center) Platform.

Residents gathered Friday for test rides on the brightly colored pink, blue and purple shuttle. Some, like Luisa and Michael Berman, told the South Florida Sun Sentinel the service could provide mobility options for older adults or those who no longer drive. Others said it could help ease parking frustrations in the busy downtown district by giving visitors a way to move around without circling for spaces…
