Milwaukee Woman Accused of Killing Mother Found Incompetent to Stand Trial

A Milwaukee County judge has deemed Lauren Spors, 29, unfit to face trial for the alleged murder of her mother, Carrie Zettel. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Spors, who is battling schizoaffective disorder, was charged with first-degree intentional homicide but was found unable to understand court procedures or to actively help in her own defense.

Court records revealed on Friday that Spors is to be admitted to the Department of Health and Family Services for institutional care in an effort to possibly restore her competence. However, in the meantime, she was placed under the custody of the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office for transportation. WeAreGreenBay.com reports that her case has been suspended and is due for a follow-up on February 27, 2026, when a doctor’s report is scheduled for review.

Spors has previously been found incompetent in connection with five other cases since 2018, dealing with battery, domestic abuse, and theft.
