New Orleans East Apartment Fire Leaves Four Families Homeless, NOFD Responds Promptly to Two-Alarm Blaze

A two-alarm fire that broke out in a New Orleans East apartment complex has left four families without homes. The blaze occurred at Laguna Reserve Apartments, located at 5331 Bundy Rd. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene on Friday, November 21, at precisely 12:44 p.m., with the first team arriving within a mere six minutes, as reported by the New Orleans Fire Department.

Visible flames were erupting from the windows of a third-floor apartment upon their arrival. The NOFD teams conducted a primary search to rapidly ensure all twelve apartments were evacuated, while others began to aggressively fight the fire that had taken hold of the second and third floors. A call for a second alarm was made at 1:02 p.m. to combat the fire’s spread into the attic.

According to the NOFD’s press release, the occupant of the affected third-floor apartment said he was roused from sleep by the smell of smoke. He found heavy smoke and flames issuing from the floor when opening a shed outside his apartment. The apartment directly beneath was vacant and under renovation at the time. A total of seventeen NOFD units and forty-six fire operations personnel worked together to bring the fire under control by 1:36 p.m…
