The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has made headlines with its recent action against a Zachary man for numerous deer hunting violations. According to enforcement agents, 22-year-old Jahrii Rice was cited for hunting deer during illegal hours and with illegal methods, among other offenses. The litany of charges doesn’t stop there; Rice also exceeded the daily limit of deer, failed to tag his catch, hunted while under license revocation, and was without necessary hunting licenses at the time of the infractions.
An investigation into Rice’s nocturnal hunting activities near Zachary led agents to discover that he had been operating outside the law. Quoted from the official report shared by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Rice was found “cleaning two does and a buck at his residence” on the morning of Last Friday, which further incriminated him. Admission of guilt was obtained during questioning, where Rice conceded that he used a spotlight and shotgun to harvest three deer in the early hours of the same day.
Noteworthy is the fact that last Friday, bagging a deer with any weapon other than primitive firearms was a violation of local regulations. During this particular season, the rules stated that hunters could only kill one antlered and one antlerless deer per day, a limit Rice surpassed when taking down two does and a buck.
