ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Students of all ages got to showcase their work on Sunday in the 45th annual Native American Student Art Show. The competition, sponsored by First Nations Development Institute and New Mexico Arts, held the opening reception Sunday afternoon at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center.
Students who were accepted for the show got to create new pieces for this year’s exhibit called ‘Planning Our Future Homes,’ focusing on Indigenous architecture designs made for the future. “I feel like what’s important is that this art show give students a voice, because that’s one thing that I feel in Native communities, we’re always recognizing is the future generation. So I think it’s very important that we give them a voice and opportunity to voice their opinions and you know, take up leadership because they are our future leaders,” said curatorial assistant Sonny Ray Olguin…
