Villagers are hoping a new restaurant will fill a niche that’s been missing at the original town square.
Long-time residents were overjoyed when plans for the massive renovation of La Reina Building included a ground floor restaurant. With the building now being retrofitted for 39 loft apartments, many residents feared that the restaurant space, mostly recently occupied by Gator’s Dockside, would be rolled into the new apartment scheme.
Suza Barr of the Village of Santo Domingo has definite vision for a restaurant that would be pleasing to her.
“We would like to see a restaurant that was neither upscale nor a sports bar. When TooJay’s closed, we lost our only regular restaurant where a person could go and sit calmly and have a meal without the noise or the high prices. Now we can still go to Ruby Tuesday or Panera, but it would be nice to have an acknowledgment that not everybody wants a sports bar or has the money to go to only pricey restaurants,” she said.
