When Christmas rolls around, it’s a great time to recognize the people and places you love — and I absolutely love Lubbock.
Our love might confuse some folks. Sure, we see the same bumps, warts, dust storms, and questionable driving habits as everyone else. But some of us choose to focus on the bright spots. Maybe that means we’re living in a cozy combo of denial and the Hub City, but honestly, that sounds like a pretty Lubbock thing to do.
I’ll never pretend Lubbock is perfect. There’s a streak of ugliness and intolerance that flares up sometimes, and it’s frustrating. But I’ll give this town credit where credit is due — most people here, when you meet them face-to-face, genuinely try to play nice. They’re polite. They’re cheerful. They’ll hold the door for you even when you’re way too far away and now you have to jog awkwardly (a very Lubbock tradition).

Let’s also keep it real: it’s hard to stay cranky in a city held together by tacos, queso, and more chicken restaurants than scientifically necessary. A full stomach is basically a peace treaty waiting to happen…
