Arrested: Des Moines Woman Charged After Gunfire Into Vehicle Carrying Fiancé, Child

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines woman is being held on a $50,000 cash bond after police say she opened fire on a vehicle carrying her fiancé and his 8-year-old daughter during a Sunday evening domestic dispute on the city’s east side.

According to Des Moines Police, 28-year-old Lakeisha Powell is charged with two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, domestic abuse assault with a weapon, and child endangerment. A preliminary hearing is set for December 4 at 8:00 a.m. in Room 130 of the Polk County Criminal Courts Building.

Officers were called shortly before 6 p.m. after the male victim reported that Powell fired a handgun at his vehicle outside a home in the 400 block of E. Hillside Avenue. Police say the bullet struck the rear passenger door, where the child was seated.
