St. Louis mayor proposes free college for public school graduates

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Mayor Cara Spencer said Thursday she’d like Saint Louis Public Schools to offer some form of free college for its graduates, arguing it could be transformative for the city and not “that expensive.”

Spencer said the idea would be to offer every graduate of SLPS at least one year of paid secondary education, whether community college, a trade school or training program.
