Albuquerque pilot who died in UPS plane crash remembered

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Saturday, the community mourned the loss of an Albuquerque pilot who was killed in a plane crash. Lee Truitt was a 45-year-old pilot and was among three crew members who were killed in the explosion on a UPS plane in Kentucky.

A National Transportation Service board member said the plane was cleared for takeoff, but the engine detached from the plane’s wing, then burst into flames as the plane took off. Fourteen people died as a result.

Truitt was born in Albuquerque in 1980. He attended Bandelier Elementary, Wilson Middle School, Highland High School, and the University of New Mexico.
