University of Nevada, Reno Students Highlight Local Public Health Research at National Conference

Students, faculty, and alumni from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Public Health attended the 2025 American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting and Expo in Washington, D.C. The event took place during a federal government shutdown, which affected the context of public health discussions. The Nevada group hosted a booth that served Turkish coffee and provided a space for conversation.

Dean Muge Akpinar-Elci, M.D., MPH, said the APHA conference offers students opportunities to engage with national leaders and present their research. She noted that students were able to share their work and discuss its relevance to public health.

During the week, Nevada students and faculty presented research on topics such as behavioral health, environmental health, maternal and child health, overdose prevention, global nutrition policy, and workforce development.
