Shiloh Community Center Supervisor Christin King Recognized for Service to Asheville Residents

Christin King has been named an APR Innovator by Asheville Parks & Recreation. This recognition highlights team members who contribute to the community. King joined the department in 2015 as a seasonal employee. She is now the Facility Supervisor at the Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center. She started this work while earning her bachelor’s degree at Western Carolina University. Her early experience at Vance Elementary School (now Lucy S. Herring Elementary School) matched her background in licensed childcare.

Over the past decade, King has worked on several programs. These include the Positive Opportunities Develop Success (PODS) initiative, virtual summer camps during the pandemic, and community events such as the Shiloh Fun Day festival and Trunk or Treat. She has developed professional skills and built relationships with colleagues, families, and partner organizations. These partners include Team Us, YMCA of WNC, and the Shiloh Neighborhood Association.

King has helped organize activities for residents of western North Carolina. She has seen the effects of new programs on people of all ages in Buncombe County. She states that Asheville Parks & Recreation offers programs that aim to improve the quality of life for the community…
