Nationwide emergency management notification system outage affecting South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA (WCIV) — CodeRED, a notification system used by emergency management agencies, is experiencing a nationwide outage following a cybersecurity incident earlier this month, the South Carolina Emergency Management Division announced Monday.

CodeRED is used by several state emergency management agencies, as well as FEMA. SCEMD is unable to access the system, but said it and local agencies that use it can still issues IPAWS alerts through alternate backup systems, which can ensure South Carolinians are notified in the event of an emergency or disaster.
