Age of chivalry: Medieval history fans come together at castle ‘siege’

Swords, sorcery and the age of chivalry descended on Alcoa Saturday, Nov. 22 for the second annual Norman Castle Siege at Millennium Manor Castle. The celebration of medieval combat, wares and costumes lasted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The free event at 500 N. Wright Road offered vendors, food, reenacted siege warfare and full-contact armored fighting courtesy of several local groups. Guests flocked to the historic structure for hours — often donning colorful costumes and period wear.

Michael Ensor, one of the event organizers, said they pulled vendors and groups together after receiving a letter from the property owner. He’s with Valraven Forge — a Knoxville-based blacksmithing company focused on Norse and Celtic-inspired wares — and he’s worked several Renaissance faires…
